China leads in Top 10 list of the World’s Tallest Buildings to be completed by 2020

The skylines of the future will likely be filled with more and more soaring buildings that serve to be both functional and tourist attractions for their respective locales.

As reported by the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH), the current tallest building is the ten year-old Burj Khalifa in ‪Dubai‬ at 2,722 feet, but new buildings currently under construction will reach heights far above it.

CTBUH actually predicts that the world will soon see a building that stretches a mile-high into the sky (3,280 feet).

‎China‬, which has been experiencing a construction boom over the past few years, will be home to 7 of the top 10 ‪‎tallest buildings‬ that will be built and completed by the end of the decade.

The No.10 building on the list is currently being built right next to ‪#CCTV‬’s iconic ‪‎Beijing‬ headquarters building.

Other Chinese cities that will also have their skylines transformed by 2020 will include Suzhou, Shenzhen, Wuhan, Tianjin, and Shenyang.

Here is the Top 10 list:

1. Kingdom Tower, Jeddah, Saudi Arabia


Height: 3,281 feet
Floors: 167
Completion Year: 2018

Reported to cost $1.2 billion to construct, Kingdom Tower will soar over 550 feet taller than the United Arab Emirates’ Burj Khalifa.

The building will be a multi-purpose facility with a luxury hotel, office space, serviced apartments, luxury condos, and the world’s highest observatory.

The Kingdom Tower will require the world’s most sophisticated elevator system.


2. Suzhou Zhongnan Center, Suzhou, China


Height: 2,392 ft
Floors: 138
Completion Year: 2020

The Suzhou Zhongnan will be the tallest building in China when it's completed.

3. Ping An Finance Center, Shenzhen, China


Height: 2,165 feet
Floors: 115
Completion Year: 2016


4. Wuhan Greenland Centre, Wuhan, China


Height: 2,087 feet
Floors: 125
Completion Year: 2017

The building is expected to cost around $4.5 billion and has energy-saving features.


5. Goldin Finance 117, Tianjin, China


Height: 1,957 feet
Floors: 128
Completion year: 2016

The Goldin Finance 117, also known as the China 117 Tower, will have 117 floors.


6. Pearl of the North, Shenyang, China


Height: 1,863 feet
Floors: 113
Completion Year: 2018

The Pearl of the North will have 34 floors of offices as well as a 320-room luxury hotel, according to Architects Journal.


7. Lotte World Tower, Seoul, South Korea


Height: 1,819 feet
Floors: 123
Completion Year: 2016

8. Nordstrom Tower, New York, United States


Height: 1,775 feet
Floors: 92
Completion Year: 2018

Nordstrom Tower is a residential project by Extell Development Company.

The building will be the second tallest skyscraper in New York city as well as the US when it's finished.


9. CTF Finance Center, Guangzhou, China


Height: 1,739 feet
Floors: 111
Completion Year: 2016

The CTF Finance Center will have the fastest elevators in the world at 45 miles per hour.

It will take 43 seconds to go from the first to the 95th floor, according to the BBC.


10. Zhongguo Zun, Beijing, China



Height: 1,732 feet
Floors: 108
Completion Year: 2018
