English Medium Chemical Engineering and Technology Program in China Universities

Chemical engineering is a branch of engineering that applies the natural (or experimental) sciences (e.g. chemistry and physics) and life sciences (e.g. biology, microbiology and biochemistry) together with mathematics and economics to produce, transform, transport, and properly use chemicals, materials and energy. It essentially deals with the engineering of chemicals, energy and the processes that create and/or convert them. Modern chemical engineers are concerned with processes that convert raw materials or chemicals into more useful or valuable forms. They are also concerned with pioneering valuable materials and related techniques – which are often essential to related fields such as nanotechnology, fuel cells and bioengineering.

Chemical engineering and technology involve the application of several principles. Key concepts are presented below.

  • Chemical reaction engineering
  • Plant design
  • Process design
  • Transport phenomena (Source - wikipedia)

1. Dalian University of Technology, Dalian

DUT Undergraduate of Chemical Engineering in English

Name of specialty: Chemical Engineering

Credit system: 4 years

Brief Introduction

As an applied science, Chemical Engineering is a blend of several disciplines including science, mathematics, chemistry, biochemistry, engineering, which is aimed to make produce value added products in a cost effective and safe (including environmental) manner via experiments and innovative attempts.

The solid training provided gives students an excellent preparation for the increasing and changing demands of society. Our comprehensive and versatile undergraduate program offers students an excellent opportunity to develop a career in Chemical Engineering. Most of our past graduates will enter various public or private sector bodies as trainee engineers upon graduation.

2. Harbin Institute of Technology, Harbin

School Introduction

School of Chemical Engineering & Technology, HIT

Nearly a century old, HIT is recognized as a world-class research and teaching institution. Its core strengths continue to be scientific research and engineering technology with unparalleled programs in astronautics. HIT Harbin offers a broad interdisciplinary curriculum organized in 21 schools (departments) including 85 undergraduate programs, 41 masters’ programs, 27 doctoral programs, 21 post-doctoral research stations, 9 national key primary disciplines, and 50 national & provincial (ministerial) key labs.

In early 1930's, School of Chemical Engineering and Technology (SCET) was one of the four main discipline of "Mechanics, Electricity, Instruments and Chemical Engineering" at HIT.

Hi-tech Research Base

Researches in SCET engage to bridge the gap between laboratory-scale studies and the large-scale industrial productions. They span a variety of areas, for example, functional nano-materials for advanced fuel cell system, electroplating, super-capacitor, molecular electrochemistry, high performance polymer composites, optical materials, fine ceramics, catalysis and surface, bio-inspired nanomaterials, organic luminescence materials, organ- inorganic hybrids, coordination compounds, computational and solution chemistry. SCET is well equipped with facilities for spectroscopy analysis, surface and interface analysis, electrochemical measurement, and more.

International Cooperation

SCET's international collaboration is quite impressive. So far, SCET have established regular and active cooperation with tens of institutions around the world like Stanford University, UC Berkeley, Oxford University, Cambridge University, Aarhus University, ETH Zurich, Moscow University, Toronto University, and Melbourne University.

Faculty

The school has a strong staff team including 26 professors and 20 associate professors. Until now, more than 4200 students have been cultivated with many of them now holding leadership and senior management positions. The school recruits about 60 doctoral candidates, 80 graduate students and 100 undergraduate students per year.

Program Description

Main Courses

  • Public courses - Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry.
  • Basis of Chemical Engineering - Chemical transfer and unit operation, Chemical Separate Engineering, etc.
  • Specialized courses - Principles of Electrochemistry, Electrochemical measurement, etc.

After the study of the public courses in the first two years, students can choose the major from Chemical Engineering and Technology (characteristic specialty of Ministry of Education, China) and Polymer Materials and Engineering (key specialty of Heilongjiang province, ranked Top 2 in China).
