1. Background of China University Matriculation Program (CUMP)中国大学预科
           
With the collaboration and support from Jiangsu Education Association for International Exchange, Global Institute of Software Technology (GIST) of Suzhou China and Penang Chung Ling High School Board of Directors has jointly started and run a matriculation program for Malaysia SPM (or equivalent qualification) students who wish to pursue further education in China universities.
           
This matriculation program will serve as a direct Pre-U entry qualification into 820 China universities that have been accredited by Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA) to enable Malaysian students to seek high quality tertiary education in China and uphold the promotion of Chinese scientific, cultural   knowledge and skills with the aims to cultivate students’ appreciation of Chinese culture, art and for common development for a better future.
   
2. Matriculation course description

The rise of China, attracting millions of foreigners to travel, visit, study and work in China. China's 5,000 years of culture, abundant native's value preservation and coupled with rapid development and the innovative modern technology,state of art  infrastructures, cosmopolitan cities and international exchanges, are all very worthwhile for students to further education in China.

In the last decade, China has been a hotspot and preferred study destination for international students.  With the introduction of English medium MBBSprogram in 2004, the number of international students study in China have been soaring high and China is now ranked 3rd largest host country for international students after US and UK.

This matriculation course is specifically designed for university entrance examination in China and fully prepares students to participate in China's college entrance exams, and through the design of the various project activities, enhance their internationalization capabilities and communication skills to enroll in the university for the future and preparation of talent with international vision.

Students who registered for CUMP courses in GIST International College Suzhou campus required to study in China for full time one year duration. Upon graduation with required entry requirement, graduated students can freely to choose to enroll in any of the 820 Chinese universities recognized by the Government of Malaysia. 
            
The diverse departments and variety of degree courses offered by Chinese universities will provide broader education pipeline for students to choose the right subject they interested. In addition, students with high merit result will be arranged for entrance interview into top and outstanding universities in China.

3. Enrollment (Guidelines for University admission)

a. With the support and promotion by Jiangsu Education Association for International Exchange, Global Institute of Software Technology (GIST) of Suzhou China and Penang Chung Ling High School Board of Directors has jointly started and run a matriculation program for Malaysia SPM (or equivalent qualification) students who wish to pursue further education in 820 ChinaUniversities that accredited by MQA of Malaysia.

After Completion of one year of pre-university courses, students are free to choose to enroll into any of the 820 Malaysia Government-recognized Chinese universities that offered diverse departments and wide selection of degree courses either in Chinese and English medium of instruction.

b. Eligibility criteria

Students with Malaysian Certificate of Education (SPM) or equivalent qualification with at least 5As. Students may apply with SPM trial examination results.

c.  Start dates

Each year in March and graduate in Jan the following year with two semesters in a year.

d.  Direction of professional orientation

4 areas of study - Arts, Science, Commerce and Performing Arts. Enrollment is based on students’ preferences, future aspirations and university selection.

 e. Tuition fees

RM 15,500 (Inclusive of lodging, registration fees)

f. Registration deadline

Each year in the month of January

g.  Application (submission)

            a. CUMP Application Form  (1 copy)
            b. SPM or SPM trial examination (1 copy)
            c. 1 copy of NRIC (both front and back in same page of A4 size)
            d. 1 copy of Malaysian Passport

h. Admission and registration

Admitted students will receive a copy of the acceptance letter. Students must use this admission letter to apply for Visa and buy flight ticket and report on a specified date stated in the letter.

1. What is CUMP?

With the Malaysia Government's recognition of 820 China universities degrees in hand, this will facilitate the enrollment of Malaysian students to study in China. Malaysian entrepreneurs’ investment into this joint ventures between Global Institute of Software Technology (GIST) of Suzhou China and Malaysia Penang Chung Ling High School Board of Directors run college is all set to provide pre-u preparatory courses and an effective platform for foreign students who wish to further education in China.

CUMP is the abbreviation of Chinese University Matriculation Program, specifically designed and targeting for the Chinese university entrance exam, which fully prepares students enrolled in Chinese universities as well as adapt to life in China. PREC Education Services is appointed education consultancy agency provides careers advisory and guidance services for students, and help students understand and apply for college preparatory courses and also establish an effective channels for students to study in China.
  
2. With whom CUMP in cooperation with?

Jiangsu provincial government approved the establishment of full-time college of Global Institute of Software Technology (GIST) in Suzhou. From the joint efforts of Global Education Management Company, Microsoft (China) Company Limited, the City of Suzhou High-tech Zone Technology Cooperation and Chung Ling High School of Malaysia, GIST is the only one college in Jiangsu province naming with "Software Technology" innovative college.

GIST founded in 2007, dedicated to the creative industries and software outsourcing services, development of high-quality, highly-skilled and international creative talents to provide personnel and technical support to sustain the growth of Suzhou and the Yangtze River Delta region economic restructuring and new round of economic development.

In 2009, Suzhou Government has officially recognized and identified GIST as service outsourcing and talents training base in Suzhou with student population of 5,000 and teaching and administrative staff of more than 300 persons. 3. Where students attend classes?

Students will be learning in the campus school of Global Institute of Software Technology (GIST) in Suzhou High-Tech Zone, China.

GIST College West Campus is located at the edge of Taihu Lake with a peaceful and serene environment, overview of campus hills and beautiful scenery. Many bus routes are available around and near the campus such as Express Bus No 3,  No 333, 310, 336 and 330 provide direct link to Suzhou railway station.

The surrounding campus is the bustling commercial center, tourist attractions and etc. Wholesome campus living facilities with Wi-Fi coverage of the entire campus and state of art library. All classrooms and lecture halls are equipped with computers and multimedia equipment. Large and spacious multi-functional amateur cultural hall are available for students performance and stage show. 

Million square meters of the training center for research, development and software training center is equipped with advanced multimedia training rooms and professional training rooms for student case studies as well as project training.  4. How much is the tuition for CUMP? Are there other expenses?

The total tuition fees for this course is RM15,500. This fee includes dormitory fees for the entire duration of study and registration fee. Other expenses such as return air tickets, visas, insurance, living costs and books of miscellaneous fees are not included in this fee.
Books for each semester cost about RM200 and the cost of living about RM400-600 range per month.

 5. Admission requirements?

Malaysian Certificate of Education (SPM) or equivalent qualification with 5As. Students may also apply with SPM trial examination results.

7.  How is the campus environment?

This CUMP program by GIST is a specifically design and cater for Malaysia students. The campus in Suzhou has a total student population 5,000 students from 30 different countries. Malaysia students will have the opportunity to study, live and work together with Chinese students and international students from various countries. Suzhou has 2,500 years of history, is a land of culture and students will have the opportunity to feel experience and explore the richness of the Chinese culture. Suzhou is located in economically developed area of Suzhou River Delta surrounded by 16  China most prosperous and fast-growing cities and towns are well connected by land, sea and air transport networks in all directions is set to make Suzhou a good living place for young people to feel the impetus development of modern China.

8. How must of dormitory fees cost?  What is the accommodation terms?

Tuition cost includes the annual dormitory fees (quadruple). Dormitory is equipped with shared bathroom, air conditioning (electricity and water bill are borne by student).

 


9. Can student cook at the dormitory?

Dorms are without kitchens hence cooking in the dorm is not allowed. On campus there are two big dining halls and provide students with all-day dining.

10. How is food served in dining halls?  What is the average spending?

Canteen food is subsidized by college and therefore cheaper. The average cost per meal is ranging from RMB 10-15 (Yuan). The common food served in the canteen are rice, noodles, dumplings and various kinds of dishes. Cafeteria in the area is famous for delicious, healthy and cheap food.

11. Is the campus safe?

Of course. China has an excellent public security. The campus is secured with 24-hour security patrol and security system. Each dormitory has a teacher on duty.

12. How is the quality of teaching staff?

Our teaching staff are professional trained and experienced and well verse and familiar with the syllabus will help students prepare for university entrance exams.

13. Is China’s universities entrance exam hard?

Different admission requirements are required for different degree courses and admission requirements of each university are not the same. The Chinese language proficiency of foreign students is set at least HSK 5. Mathematics and knowledge of contemporary China are the common topics of the college entrance examination. Teachers can help students fully prepared to participate in university entrance exams.

14. If I do not wish to enroll into Chinese universities, is there any other options?

If you wish not to choose a China university, you can also choose to participate in the Institute of high international matriculation examinations for admission into UK and US universities (International Foundation Program).

15. How to enroll into Chinese University?

This CUMP will commence in the month of March each year and end in the month of January the following year (before Spring Festival). After completion of the course, students can begin to plan to enroll /register for the Chinese University. Application into China's universities normally open from April to June for admissions and placement exams and school starts in the month of September each year. During learning process, teachers will provide careers guidance and help students learn more about their career choices, identify their strength, ability and directions of further studies.

16. What is the medium of instruction?

Both Chinese and English.

17. Is there any English classes?

English language is one of the main focus of this course to ensure students achieve the level of college English learning needs.

18. How do I apply for China Visa?

Successfully admitted students will receive an offer and admission letter from GIST. Students must use the admission notice along with medical reports, as well as visa application forms submit to Chinese Visa Centre in Kuala Lumpur to apply visa on their own. Students then use this visa to gain entry to China and report to campus in Suzhou, the school will then assist the student to apply for a residence permit in China. If Visa application service is required in Malaysia, it can be arranged with a payment of service fee.

19. Before departure, who can assist and help me?

Before leaving for China, we held a seminar for the students. This briefing will remind students of the reporting and registration date to the college and make suggestion and advice students on the suitable departure dates to China.

Students must purchase their own flight tickets and we will show students how to go from the airport to the school. Students must handle their own transportation arrangements to China and and to the college. If airport pick-up service is required, it can be arranged with a payment of service fee.

Of course, students can also choose to travel in a group with other students and we will also set out the details of travelling and make notification to the group.

20.  What is the weather like in Suzhou?

When school starts in March, Suzhou temperature is relatively cold, so you need to prepare for winter clothes before leaving. Students can also buy winter clothes after arriving at Suzhou because the clothes are cheaper in China.

21. Medical aid

There is a hospital nearby the campus and Students Department will assist you.
